Workshop

Courage beyond
the paint.

Connection beyond the game.

A 2-hour father, mentor and son workshop built to bring connection back into the rooms where it matters most.

01Sport is the language · 1 of 9

Sport is the
language
we all speak.

Sport is often the language our fathers and sons speak. The strongest connection that binds us together.

But it can also become the only one.

Performance. Selection. Results. Conversations that stay on the surface.

And underneath that — pressure, expectation, identity, silence.

This workshop uses that language and creates space for something different.

Real conversation. Shared experience. An opportunity to create real connection beyond performance — beyond the paint of the sporting field.

So our boys can show up and play — on the field and in life.

Free. Grounded. Supported.

What is it?

A 2-hour guided session for fathers, mentors and sons inside your club — built for the people already there.

  • Guided connectionActivities that bring fathers, mentors and sons together in a meaningful way.
  • Co-regulationTools to manage emotions, handle pressure, and support each other.
  • Shared experienceReal moments, not role-plays. Built around lived experience.
  • Honest conversationsA space to talk about what matters, in a way that feels safe and real.

Not a talk. Not a lecture.

Something you feel in the room.

02My story · 2 of 9

This isn’t just
something I run.
It’s somethingI’ve lived.

  • +Grew up through the elite football pathway
  • +Drafted to Hawthorn at 18… then delisted twelve months later
  • +Built a ten-year career at Glenelg Football Club
  • +The emotional toll after the passing of my father

I know pressure. I know chasing approval. I know what happens when identity becomes performance.

Two decades working across education, mental health and elite sport showed me something simple — what boys need most is a foundation of consistent, healthy male connection. That’s why I created Courage Beyond the Paint.

03The problem · 3 of 9

There has never
been a more
complex time
to be a young man.

Boys are being shaped by algorithms, influencers, online narratives of masculinity, and constant comparison.

97%
of teens use social media daily
7.5 hours
average time spent online for 13–19 year olds
78%
report feeling lonely
↑ 120%
rise in psychological distress over the past decade
04Why this matters · 4 of 9

The numbers behind
why we built this.

1 in 4
fathers don't live with their children
77%
of suicides are male
#1
leading cause of death for young Australians under 18
1 in 3
young people experience a mental health condition
45%
of men experience loneliness
20%
of boys feel they have to go it alone rather than ask for help

The foundation of a boy’s wellbeing is built through connection with the men around him. Sporting clubs are one of the last great gathering places of men in Australia. When we build connected families and connected clubs, the fabric of community strengthens.

This fabric shapes
  • +Identity
  • +Emotional regulation
  • +Values
  • +Confidence
  • +Belonging
  • +Sense of self

Without that, boys look elsewhere.

05The solution · 5 of 9

This is where clubs
can lead.

Not just in performance — but in shaping the kind of young men that walk out into the world.

We use sport as the gateway to:

  • +Build connection beyond performance
  • +Create real conversations
  • +Develop emotional awareness
  • +Strengthen relationships
  • +Create a ripple-out culture effect
  • +Build the next generation of community leaders

06Healthy environment · 6 of 9

Build rooms boys want
to come back to.

We need to create the healthy environments that our boys want to keep coming back to.

They’re developmentally immature, eyes wide open, absorbing everything in their environment — asking who am I, what am I becoming, what does it even mean to be a man.

And too often, the answer is being shaped by uninitiated men online who profit from their attention.

  • +Anxiety
  • +Low self-esteem
  • +Disconnection
  • +Turning to social media instead of real-world support

07What makes it different · 7 of 9

  • +Brings team, club, family + community together for the greatest impact
